Introducing the ALS Northwest Community Council

At ALS Northwest, we believe that the most powerful way to serve our community is by listening to those who are a part of it. That’s why we’re proud to introduce the ALS Northwest Community Council — a diverse, representative group of individuals united by their connection to ALS and their commitment to making a difference.

What Is the Community Council?

The Community Council is a thoughtfully selected advisory group formed to deepen the connection between ALS Northwest and the communities we serve. Its purpose is simple but vital: to bring forward the voices, perspectives, and lived experiences of those impacted by ALS across our region.

This council exists to ensure our entire community’s needs throughout Oregon and SW Washington are reflected in the work we do.

Every Region Represented

One of the cornerstones of the Community Council is its regional inclusivity. Every area served by ALS Northwest will have a seat at the table. Council members include designated representatives from:

  • Willamette Valley
  • Central Oregon
  • Eastern Oregon
  • Southern Oregon
  • Southwest Washington
  • The Oregon Coast

In addition to regional representation, the Council includes voices from across the ALS community:

  • People living with ALS and PLS
  • Caregivers
  • Volunteers
  • Sponsors
  • ALS Northwest Board Members

By ensuring that each of these roles is represented, the Council reflects the full spectrum of experiences and challenges within the ALS community.

How the Council Works

The Community Council meets twice a year virtually, making participation accessible to members no matter where they live. The term of service is two years.

Council members serve as trusted advisors and advocates, providing input on ALS Northwest’s outreach strategies, programs, events, and communications. They act as ambassadors within their communities, helping us build deeper connections and ensuring our work stays grounded in real-world experience.

The individuals invited to join the Community Council have been recognized for their compassion, integrity, and leadership. By creating space for these voices to come together, we are not only amplifying stories that need to be heard — we’re shaping the future of ALS Northwest in a way that is inclusive, informed, and community-driven.

Looking Ahead

The Community Council’s first meeting of the new term will take place on Tuesday, August 12, and we couldn’t be more excited to bring this dedicated group together.

We’re deeply grateful to all those who have said “yes” to this role — and to everyone in the broader ALS community who continues to inspire and lead. Your voices matter. And through the Community Council, they’ll help guide us forward.
