ALS Clinics

ALS Northwest collaborates closely with leading ALS physicians and ALS United clinic partners to ensure that people living with ALS have access to expert, specialized, and compassionate care. These clinics provide a person-centered environment where each individual’s goals and needs guide the care they receive.

One of the key areas in which ALS Northwest strives to excel is expanding clinic access in underserved regions. We do this by identifying and supporting the development of new clinic partnerships to increase access to high-quality multidisciplinary care for people living with ALS and their families. Virtual clinic visits also play a critical role in expanding access, particularly for individuals living in rural or geographically isolated areas. By offering telehealth options, clinics can provide consistent, expert guidance without requiring long-distance travel, ensuring that coordination of care remains timely, comprehensive, and patient-centered.

Multiple studies have shown that the multidisciplinary ALS clinic model is the gold standard for ALS care. This model not only supports a whole-person approach tailored to the unique needs of each individual but has also been associated with improved quality of life and extended survival due to coordinated access to treatments, support, and resources (Source: Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis: Improving Care with a Multidisciplinary Approach, JMDH).

What Is the Multidisciplinary ALS Clinic Model?

Multidisciplinary clinics bring together a team of specialists who meet with the person living with ALS during a several-hour visit. Providers offer focused assessments, education, and individualized conversations. After the visit, the care team meets to review findings and coordinate a unified plan of care.

ALS Northwest is fully integrated into this model, offering non-medical support, home visits, care coordination, and advocacy. We help individuals and families navigate the complexities of ALS and ensure they feel supported between clinic appointments.

Who Makes Up the Care Team?

ALS United partner clinics typically include:

  • Neurologist / Neuromuscular Specialist
  • Physical Therapist
  • Occupational Therapist
  • Speech-Language Pathologist
  • Registered Dietitian
  • Social Worker / ALS Northwest Care Coordinator
  • Palliative Care Provider
  • Pulmonologist
  • Respiratory Therapist
  • Nurse Coordinator

Together, this team provides a seamless, wraparound model of care that supports the whole person living with ALS and their family.
