Rocky and Becky Dallum: Honoring the Past and Inspiring the Future
For Rocky Dallum, giving back to ALS Northwest is personal. His mother passed away from ALS when she was 52, just as Rocky was entering adulthood at 18. At the time, ALS Northwest didn’t exist—there were no support groups, no resources and no safety net. “Our community in Brownsville, Oregon, was there for us,” he recalls, “but we didn’t have anything like this.”
As members of the Legacy Society, Rocky and his wife Becky are dedicated to making sure there is a strong network of care for people with ALS.
Rocky is also a dedicated board member, bringing a deep and sustained commitment to the ALS community. He not only engages his own family—Becky and their two sons, Rex (13) and Johnny (11)—but also his workplace colleagues and extended network in advocacy and fundraising efforts.

He didn’t always talk openly about ALS. For years, he avoided telling people about his mom’s death, afraid of the pity or discomfort that might follow. But over time, something shifted.
Giving back has become a way to preserve his mother’s legacy—and to connect his kids to the grandmother they never got to meet. The boys have even run a lemonade stand to raise money for the cause, and the family proudly shows up for events and campaigns. “It helps bring us together,” Rocky says. “My dad, siblings and even our extended family have all joined. There’s something healing in that.”
“Being part of ALS Northwest has helped me move away from the darkness of the story. It’s now about connection, purpose, and helping others.” – Rocky Dallum
Rocky and Becky’s decision to join the ALS Northwest Legacy Society came out of big, intentional questions: What do we want to leave behind? What’s most important to us?
“People tend to avoid those conversations,” Rocky says. “But we knew it was important to plan—not only for our kids, but for the causes we care about. We hope for big things, like a cure. But sustaining this organization is also critical. It does a great job.”
Rocky also considers the future of ALS care across the region. “How do we reach rural communities better? Where are the gaps in coverage? How do we build the infrastructure and culture to meet people where they are?” These are the questions that drive his family’s ongoing investment in the mission.
For Rocky and Becky Dallum, leaving a legacy isn’t just about what comes later. It’s about showing up now, with open hands, open hearts, and a clear vision of a better future for every person affected by ALS.
