Individual Retirement Account (IRA) Giving
If you have an Individual Retirement Account (IRA), you can make a gift to the chapter directly from your IRA. Plus, if you've reached the age of 70.5 when you need to take required minimum distributions, you can avoid paying taxes on them by donating that money to the chapter.
The Protecting Americans from Tax Hikes Act of 2015 permanently extends the IRA Rollover Provision. This provision allows donors of age 70.5 or older to make tax-free distributions of up to $100,000 from individual retirement accounts each year and is excluded from your charitable income.
Note: only the IRA custodian can transfer gift amounts to the chapter. If IRA owners withdraw funds and contribute to the chapter separately, amounts withdrawn will be taxable to the donor.
